This blog explores how being anchored in dependency strengthens your trust in God when life feels uncertain and you’re waiting in the in-between.
In dependency, there are certain rhythms we can expect. While this isn’t everything that happens, there are three key things to look out for:
- A time of waiting
- A time of remembrance
- A time of expectation
These moments shape how we lean into God in the in-between spaces of our lives.
A Time of Waiting
I’m currently reading Now and Not Yet by Ruth Chou Simons, a book about pressing in when you’re waiting, wanting, and restless for more. And it made me ask myself: What am I waiting for?
Maybe for you, it’s a spouse or a raise.
Could it even be for the government shutdown to lift.
Maybe you’re waiting for your children to grow, for a dream to come to pass, for a prayer to be answered.
I know I’m waiting on a few things personally. Sit with that for a moment. Do speed past it. What are you waiting for?

The Silent Work of Waiting
Waiting often tests us. It stretches our faith and reveals our perspective. So the real question becomes: What are you doing in the waiting? How are you remaining patient? How are you staying faithful?
I want to offer this perspective: waiting is sacred stillness. It’s that place where waiting and remembrance collide, where instead of striving, you begin to remind yourself of God’s Word, His truth, His plans, and His peace.
Sacred stillness isn’t about ignoring the noise around you or inside of you. It’s about finding an inner calm and choosing to trust God’s sovereignty over your timeline. What you believe about God, who He is, what He’s spoken, and what He’s promised becomes the seed that bears fruit in your life.
My friend, Debbie, wrote me this note and it’s been on my heart heavily:
“Waiting is not wasting. It’s sacred stillness trusting that roots are growing deeper while the surface seems silent.”
So how do you depend on God in your waiting?
“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” — Psalm 27:14
Think about how we wait for everyday things, a friend to get ready, a meal in a long line. Most of the time, we understand there’s a reason for the delay. How much more with God?
Maybe the timing isn’t right.
Could it be that He’s refining your character or does the promise require deeper roots before fruit.
God is sovereign. Every delay carries purpose. And that purpose is always for our good.
A Time of Remembrance
Dependency also brings us to a place of remembering.
It’s about remembering what God has spoken, gripping it tightly, guarding it from the enemy, and protecting it from doubt.
All throughout Scripture, God commands His people to remember. Why? Because we are prone to spiritual amnesia. When we remember, something powerful happens:
- Faith is cultivated.
- Hope is strengthened.
- Obedience is encouraged.
When you remember what God has done, your faith is reminded of His faithfulness in the past and reassured He will be faithful again in the present. Remembrance becomes a rhythm of repetition, where truth is spoken over your soul until it’s anchored deep.

You don’t drift when you’re anchored in dependency, you dwell. You remember. You expect. You trust.
A Time of Expectation
And then comes expectation, a holy anticipation of what God is about to do.
Expectation is not wishful thinking; it’s rooted hope. It’s expecting life, light, abundance, and the manifestation of God’s promises. The prophetic word, the dream, the vision, these are not forgotten. They are being fulfilled in God’s time.
Expectation makes me think of a war cry or battle cry. There’s something stirring when you remember what God has promised. Something in you begins to rise, to shout in praise, because your hope is anchored in Him.
This is the place where your hope is renewed:
- You confess what God has spoken.
- You take heart.
- You trust that He’s about to move.
- You believe on another level.
“The word of God is not bound.” — 2 Timothy 2:9
God has no limits. No restrictions. No barriers. And in this place of expectation, courage rises, faith deepens, and hope becomes contagious.
To be anchored in dependency is to live aware of His presence, remembering His faithfulness while expecting His goodness.
A Word of Encouragement
God calls us to be faithful, to wait with sacred stillness, to remember His faithfulness, and to expect His power to move.
He wants us to expect the impossible, to believe for miracles, to look for multiplication, and to live with confident hope.
If there’s anything we desire to do here at Life in God, it’s to point you back to Jesus. To lead you to the feet of the Father where you can seek His guidance and wisdom for your life.
God is faithful.
Your perspective matters.
And your dependency on Him is not in vain.
Waiting is sacred stillness. Remembering builds faith. Expectation births courage. This is the rhythm of dependency.
