Christ’s Love and the Sting of Death
“Christ loved the church before the church loved Him back, and He loves the church when the church doesn’t have anything to give Him!” – Preston Perry
Let that sink in. Ponder it. How does it make you feel?
This is unconditional love. I realized this truth, and in that moment my heart and mind lit up like a Christmas tree. I moved from a surface-level understanding of salvation to a deeper awareness of God’s unconditional love for me. And that is my prayer for you.
So, as you read this blog, I pray God enlightens your understanding so you know the depth of His love and live free, for Christ has removed death’s sting.
Here’s the reality: you cannot fully understand the Word of God, the truth of God, or the mysteries of the Lord without the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said:
- “When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth.” (John 16:13)
- “Apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
- “Whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.” (Romans 14:23)
So, when you open your Bible, when you pray, when you encourage a friend, when you sit with someone who is grieving, you need the Spirit. Right now, take a moment and invite the Holy Spirit into this moment.
Why This Matters
We’ve been discussing the importance of not being casual Christians. We’ve been talking about how much more God has in store for us than what we’ve been experiencing or thinking of Him. But let’s get to the heart of it:
- Salvation is your greatest need. Without it, nothing else matters. You can gain success, wealth, relationships, and influence, but if your soul is not saved, you’ve gained nothing (Mark 8:36).
- If you are not saved, nothing you attempt to do will have eternal value. Good works apart from Christ cannot erase sin or earn God’s favor (Ephesians 2:8–9).
- Jesus is the only one who can save you. Scripture is clear: “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among people by which we must be saved [for God has provided the world no alternative for salvation].” (Acts 4:12)
Why is this such good news?

Because of what Jesus has already done. He lived the life we could not live, died the death we deserved, and rose to give us eternal life. Through Him:
- We are saved from the punishment of sin (Romans 6:23).
- We have the power to overcome sin (Romans 6:14).
- We stand in the authority of Christ over death (Hebrews 2:14–15).
- We walk in eternal victory (1 Corinthians 15:57).
This is why salvation is not just important, it’s everything. Without Jesus, death is the end. This is why salvation isn’t just important—it’s everything. Without Jesus, death ends the story. With Jesus, He defeats death, and we inherit everlasting life.
The Gospel Is Not Opinion
The gospel doesn’t offer mere advice or philosophy; it anchors itself in real historical events:
- Jesus really died.
- Jesus really rose again.
- People really witnessed it (1 Corinthians 15:3–6).
- The world was really transformed by it.
“Our religion is not based upon opinions, but upon facts.” – Charles Spurgeon
This is not about religious platitudes or personal opinions. These are eyewitness testimonies, world-shaking events, and the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit.
The Sting of Death
Paul writes:
“The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:56–57)
But what does that mean in real life?
- For unbelievers, death still stings because sin remains. The real terror of death comes after dying—standing before a holy God for judgment. (“It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.” – Hebrews 9:27).
- For believers, death has no sting because Jesus already bore sin’s punishment. He satisfied judgment at the cross. For those in Christ, death is no longer an ending, it’s a doorway into eternal life with God.
A Modern Picture of Death’s Sting
Think about it like this:
- A bee sting hurts. A scorpion sting can be deadly.
- That’s what sin does to death, it injects pain, fear, and finality.
- Without sin, death would be a transition from this life to the next.
- But with sin, death becomes terrifying because it brings guilt, judgment, and eternal separation from God.
Another way to look at it: imagine taking a final exam that you know you’ll fail because you didn’t prepare. That sinking, hopeless feeling? That’s what dying in sin is like, knowing judgment is ahead and you’re not ready. But in Christ, the test has already been passed on your behalf.
The Bottom Line
The sting = sin + judgment.
- Jesus removes the sting for believers.
- Without Him, the sting remains.
That’s why Satan works so hard to make people quit, numb their hearts, or die without Christ, because that means eternal separation from God. But in Jesus, death has been disarmed.
That’s why Satan would love for you to give up, never come to Christ, never know your purpose, or die in your sin because without Jesus, death is still your enemy and that would mean eternal separation from God.
You Have Victory in Christ
Because of Jesus, we can taunt death itself:
“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” (1 Corinthians 15:55)
Through Christ, death is defeated, and eternal victory is secure.
But Paul doesn’t stop there. He goes on to show us how this victory should shape the way we live right now. That’s where we’re headed in Part 2: how to be steadfast, immovable, and always abounding in the work of the Lord.
So come back next time as we talk about what it looks like to live in the power of Christ’s resurrection today.
