How Dependency Leads You to the Feet of Jesus and Transforms Your Faith

There is beauty in dependency, and one of the most sacred places that beauty unfolds is at the feet of Jesus.

Dependency keeps you at the feet of Jesus. It’s the place where your strength runs out, but His presence meets you, where desperation and weariness drive you to your knees to seek Him. Where striving ends, and surrender begins.

Two things are true in this place:

  1. It’s difficult and often painful. Dependency is usually born out of some level of suffering, silence, unanswered prayers, or even confusion.
  2. It’s also where comfort, strength, and promises are found in the Father.

That’s the place I want to walk through with you today. This is a short read, but I believe it’s a profound one.

Living in the Tension

These two things are true in my life right now.

On one hand, I feel overwhelmed, juggling what feels like 18 balls at once, waiting on answers, and carrying weight I can’t fully explain.

On the other hand, I’m in absolute awe of God. He has been working miracles, showing Himself faithful, and providing for my family and me in ways I’ve never experienced before. I’m reminded of the vision of Life in God: to surrender, dwell, and abide in Him to experience God for yourself.

It’s almost as if my spirit knows something I can’t yet comprehend or articulate. And maybe that’s exactly where the Lord calls us to be: in the place where He knows all and sees all, and we are called to depend and trust in Him through it.

Dependency Keeps You At His Feet

Being kept at the feet of Jesus is more than a phrase; it’s a posture, a way of living and becoming.

It’s choosing to slow down long enough to listen, to learn, and to lean in. It’s the place of stillness and surrender. Like Mary of Bethany, who sat at Jesus’ feet while others were busy doing. It’s where you rest in His presence, trust His timing, and allow His Word to shape your heart more than the noise around you.

Dependency keeps you desperate for His presence. It keeps you coming to Him for everything.

And in that posture, at His feet, you find what you could never produce on your own: confidence in chaos, peace in uncertainty, and strength in weakness.

There is something beautiful that happens at the feet of Jesus.

  1. There is power at the feet of Jesus.
  2. There is hope at the feet of Jesus.
  3. There is freedom at the feet of Jesus.
  4. There is victory at the feet of Jesus.

How to Depend on Jesus?

How do you depend on Him and sit at His feet?

  1. Search His Word
  2. Pray
  3. Worship
  4. Simply cry or weep
  5. Sit in silence

Something shifts when you sit at the feet of Jesus. The Word of the Lord begins to illuminate your heart. Your spiritual eyes open. God grants understanding and reveals hidden mysteries, things you could never discover in your own strength.

For months, I’ve been praying for deeper encounters with God. And slowly, consistently, He has been answering. Jesus has been encountering me. That has been my prayer for all of us, that we would encounter Him, too.

Guided at His Feet

Dependency doesn’t just keep you close to Him; it guides you.

It’s through consistent, moment-by-moment rhythms that you meet Jesus. And when you’re in His presence and He begins to reveal hidden things, receive it by faith. Begin to praise Him before the miracle comes, because no one can shut the door He opens.

In a recent family prayer time, I saw a path filled with words, and I wrote:

“May Your Word become my path in which I shall follow. Lead me and guide me. May Your Word be what I turn to in times of trouble and great success. May I know You more deeply and intimately through Your Word and presence.”

We’re all walking on some kind of path, and the Word of God makes your steps clear. It doesn’t just show you a way; it shows you the way.

Next week, we will talk about how dependency changes our affections. But for now, let’s look at how Scripture describes the kind of walk that reflects Jesus. So come back next week!

How We Are Called to Walk

We are called to walk:

  1. Worthy – Ephesians 4:1
  2. Uprightly – Isaiah 57:2
  3. In the Light – 1 John 1:7
  4. Humbly – Micah 6:8

None of this is possible without the Word of God lighting the way. Dependency positions your heart to listen, follow, and walk in step with Him.

Finding Delight in Affliction

At the feet of Jesus, you learn to find delight in Him, even during affliction.

Here’s what I want to tell you: look forward to that moment. Not because affliction is fun or easy, but because it is coming, and God will meet you in it.

Struggles will come. Suffering will come. But dependency turns your pain into a place of intimacy.

When you choose to stay at His feet, your heart finds joy in His Word even in the hardest seasons.

It’s not easy. But the more you seek Him, the more your heart is strengthened. His Word becomes your anchor. His presence becomes your refuge.

What’s Birthed at the Feet of Jesus

Something happens when dependency roots you at His feet.

  1. You encounter Jesus.
  2. Hidden mysteries are revealed.
  3. Your heart is encouraged and empowered.
  4. Your path becomes clear.
  5. Your walk begins to change.

Dependency isn’t weakness. It’s worship.

It’s the posture that keeps you close to the One who upholds everything.

If you feel the pull to depend on God more deeply, lean in. Don’t rush the process. Sit at His feet. Let His Word light your way.
