This post is all about the secret to transformation in Christ.

we are the clay, and you are our potter;
we are all the work of your hand.” Isaiah 64:8
We are a quarter into 2025, and I wanna know how your “new year, new you” is going. While we say that we don’t subscribe to its mantra, there is that subconscious part in our mind that looks forward to starting fresh and new. It’s an opportunity to jump into that new adventure, try that new diet, change the course of your attitude, build that new habit, and start fresh.
God doesn’t start from scratch each year. Instead, He renews us continuously. He makes all existing things new and transforms us when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
Ashes to Awe” is a phrase used to describe the rebirth or transformation of something after defeat or damage.
Since God doesn’t start from scratch, He takes our messy lives, attitudes, and wicked ways and makes them new; he redeems them. Whether you are coming to Christ from a life of promiscuity, additions, fear, pride, or selfishness, God takes you and puts you in new clothes. He dresses you with salvation as if it were your clothes. God has placed the robe of godliness on you. God is so good like that; He turns it around and uses it for His glory. He forgives us and takes it a little further, saying, “I am going to use this for good and for my glory.” He takes everything you have been through and uses it for His glory.
[God] will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning. —Isaiah 61:3 NLT
I did not allow the Lord to really deal with me until I went on a real, honest journey of identity through God’s lens.
My Story of Transformation
Maybe you can relate, but I was once a broken girl, a fearful girl, a people-pleasing girl, a girl lost, seeking pleasure and happiness in all the wrong places. To be honest, it wasn’t an intentional journey. There were certain desires that I wanted, but I didn’t know they each led to wholeness. Three pivotal moments in my life really sparked transformation for me: the power of therapy, community, and the Word.
It started in therapy, where I learned to put language to my emotions and began to recognize how I felt. Then, the Lord blessed me with a community of strong, confident, authentic, and genuine women who did everything with excellence.
When I first joined the church, I just showed up as me. At this point, I still struggled with some identity stuff, but I felt safe and comfortable being me. So, I remained consistent in the Word, learned from leadership, and served faithfully. Wherever there was a need, I filled in and supported. I didn’t know He was taking me on a journey to love me, to fall in love with who He created me to be. He accepted me already, and I just needed to accept myself.
All along, while you don’t realize it, God is using your past and present to help you live in the truth He already knows and believes about you. Your mess is being turned into a testimony you can’t see with natural eyes yet.
Rebirth in Christ
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
This verse says, “for anyone.” No matter your race, nationality, status, following, or intellect, you can be a new creation in Jesus Christ. This is not for those who are in themselves, in the business of pleasing men, or someone or something else, nor the crystal and universe, but those who are in Christ. This is a promise to be saved and changed by Jesus when you come to Him.
A new creation doesn’t communicate perfection. It communicates that we are changed and we are being changed. When you get married, you change; as you work up the corporate ladder, you change; when you hang out with corrupt friends, you change. So, we are all changing regardless of whether we believe so or not.
God alone does the work of change in us. Yet we do play a role: we submit to His Word. The gift of being a new creation comes with the challenge to live as one. We can’t “make” or “manufacture” growth. When we put our hearts and minds in the right environments, fellowship, and obedience we see blessings grow and flourish.
To live in this new life, you must give up your old life and start a new life in the Spirit. To follow God’s will, you must be born again and commit to living according to God’s will, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide you (John 16:13; Romans 8:14; Galatians 5:25).
Clothed in Your New Self
Step into your royal identity, you are no longer defined by your past.
The Bible says, “you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy (1 Peter 2:9).”
A believer is given a new life principle, direct access to God, a new authority, and a new owner which should be reflected in how they live. Yet, this is not a reason for pride or boasting, but an opportunity to proclaim and praise the One who takes broken, raggedy lives and transforms them into something beautiful and whole.
So, I encourage you to put on your new clothes—put on that new jacket that makes you feel bold and fierce, put on those new Jordans that make you feel cool and smooth, put on your new self that Jesus died on the cross for you. Now, walk in it with the Holy Spirit. Be free because you are free. You are clothed in your new self. Every day, remind yourself, “I am clothed in Christ’s righteousness!”

Renew Your Mind Daily
In the Bible, transformation is the change or renewal of a life that is no longer conformed to the ways of the world but is conformed to pleasing God (Romans 12:2).
To resist conformity, your mind must be transformed. This means rejecting the influence of a culture that rebels against God and refuse to be shaped by it. By thinking differently, the first questions we should ask ourselves is “What is true here? What does God’s Word say?” rather than “How do I feel?” or “What do I do?”
A Prayer for Transformation
I pray for the person reading these words right now. Lord, I ask that You perform a radical transformation in their life. Awaken their talents, their gifts, and their confidence. I pray for boldness to take root in their heart. May they fall deeply in love with the person You created them to be. Open their eyes to see themselves as You see them—holy, pure, set apart, righteous, wonderful, Your chosen one, a royal priesthood. I pray you heal every broken and wounded heart. Holy Spirit, fill them with Your presence and help them to forgive themselves. From this day forward, may they live in freedom
Step Into Your New Self
Why do we sit in the ashes? Why do we indulge the spirit of heaviness when Jesus gave us something so much better? My final encouragement is to embrace transformation. Embrace your new self daily— Let go of old shame, past wounds, and former ways of thinking. Put on the newness of who you are in Christ. You are chosen, loved, free, and set apart by God through Jesus Christ.
