How to Stay Firm in Your Faith in Uncertain Times: A Daniel-Like Faith in a Shifting Culture

The Daniel Blueprint (Part 7) – Can we talk about the uncertain times we are living in?

Tuesday is here, and I am so glad you’re here. We are doing things a little different this week, but I guarantee you will be encouraged and can take something away. This is my encouragement for the political junkies. Scriptures provide guidance and wisdom in every area. It may not say it specifically, but God gives us wisdom principles and insight throughout scripture, and when we spend time in His presence. Sometimes it’s a rhema word you may receive that’s specially for you. So always be on the lookout for the move of God in your life.

Alright, to the topic at hand, first, let me keep it 100% with you, I don’t watch the news much. I’m not following every update, I’m not deep in every headline, and I’m most certainly not glued to every breaking story. I know enough to stay aware, enough to know what’s going on, but that’s about it.

A few years ago, I remember saying something along the lines of, “You cannot put your faith in this world. Like, it’s so unpredictable, wishy washy, and always changing.” And here’s the truth I landed on: if you’re driven or motivated by anything other than God, whatever you’re resting in is fragile.

Now Secondly,

I also don’t talk much about this topic, partly because I don’t follow it closely enough to speak with authority, and partly because of the work I do. I tread lightly on purpose, and actually, truly, I’m not that interested. It doesn’t do much for me.

Yes, Jesus cares about justice, and we fight against injustice, but I also recognize I am not called to be on the front lines of political wars, protests, or fighting on Capitol Hill. I have friends in those mission fields, and there is a need for more laborers. So if that’s your passion, I do encourage you to get involved.

I don’t let the news intimidate me, not by the chaos, not by the uncertainty, not by the noise of it all. And I can acknowledge when things are wrong. I can see when situations could be handled so much better, the way we speak, the way things get publicized, the way decisions get made. All of it, honestly, requires Jesus.

But my complete faith and trust? It’s in Him.

I believe in the almighty power of Jesus, who saves, redeems, restores, answers, sets free, protects, and all of the things.

In all of this, I encourage you to put your faith in Jesus, to love truth and the God of this earth who is unchanging and who holds all power in His hands.

So What’s Our Posture?

1 Peter 2:17 reminds us to honor everyone. Honor is a position, not a person; you honor the role, not necessarily the individual. Romans 13:1 tells us that God has instituted every authority that exists. So let us be so very careful with our words when we speak out about something God is not surprised by.

Let’s consider David; he had every reason to badmouth Saul, and he never did. That’s the standard.

Here’s What I Want I Am Actually Saying to You

In the midst of these uncertain times, i’m not telling you not to watch the news, but I am telling, rather suggesting:

1. Don’t be fearful or consumed by what’s happening around you. Put your faith and trust in Jesus.

2. Pray. Intercede like never before. Pray for the hand of God over wars, over families, over our government, over everything. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 says we should make intercession for all people, and that includes those in authority. Stand in the gap. Ask Him to bring His kingdom and accomplish His will on this earth (Matthew 6:10). We want to see God’s kingdom invade this earth.

3. Show compassion. Be an encourager. Be a blessing. There is so much happening. What can you do with what you have to love on someone else? How can we, as the body of Christ, humans, lock arms with our brothers and sisters, rally around each other, embrace, and uplift?

Love Beyond Your Circle

And this, I really want to say this, get to know people who don’t look like you. Don’t limit yourself to only your own race or community. Every person is God’s creation. Everyone. You will limit your reach, your impact, and what you receive if you only stay in one circle. Get curious. Get connected. Love wide.

This is so funny because last night I had a dream, that connects with this blog which I actually wrote early March.

I want to share a dream. Follow me here, it’ll make sense. I was on a college campus, and two girls felt some way about another ethnic group not being able to do something. For some reason, I remember encouraging the students to try wearing a hijab for this particular school ceremony alongside their peers. I told them it could enrich their experience and make their peers (of a different ethnicity) feel seen and valued (and it did in the dream). Also, it would open the door for them to learn more about that culture.

It wasn’t about conforming, it was about choosing to be informed. At least, that’s how the dream went. I’m sure I said it in a much richer way there, but I pray this still makes sense.

Too often, we limit ourselves to only our own experiences. And I’m not talking about compromising your faith, your values, or beliefs, or participating in something that goes against God. I’m simply talking about seeing God’s people and choosing to show them love, honor, and respect.

You Are Not Too Small for This Moment

God took a young shepherd boy and made him a king. He used teenagers. The older adults. He used the overlooked, the unexpected, the ones the world counted out.

So what can He do with you, someone who has made themselves available to the power and work of the Holy Spirit?

Seek the Lord for strategy and wisdom because you are not too young, too small, or too insignificant to make a difference. You being here right now is a reason. You don’t have tomorrow promised, but you have today.

So give Jesus praise right where you are. See His glory. And His glory alone.
