The Seeds You’re Planting Now Will Build—or Break—Your Tomorrow

This blog is about how the seeds you plant today will shape the life you live tomorrow.

What if the real reason you feel stuck is because you’ve been trusting in yourself more than God, and calling it wisdom?

We say we want change, freedom, breakthrough… but then we cling to our old habits, our familiar patterns, our own way. Meanwhile, God is standing at the edge of our hardened ground, offering a plow and a promise: Break it up. Turn to Me. I’ll rain righteousness on you.

When You Truly Encounter Jesus

When you truly encounter Jesus, turning from your own way becomes not just important, it becomes everything. The cost of continuing in self is far greater than the cost of surrender.

I think about marriage, and I realize that staying angry doesn’t serve the union. Reconciliation must come quickly. Forgiveness must be swift. Words must be carefully considered. I have to guard my heart, watch my engagement, communicate with love, and draw strength from God. This is the cost. Because when I don’t, the enemy sees an opening, an opportunity to divide, deceive, isolate, and destroy.

The same principle applies to our relationship with God. The sooner we turn from our way, the closer we draw to Him. The faster we forgive, the more we look like Him. We stop resembling the world.

The Seeds You Plant Today Reveal Your Trust

Hosea shows us that trusting in your own way always leads to ruin but sowing righteousness reaps mercy.

“Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the Lord, that He may come and rain righteousness upon you.”

—Hosea 10:12

What are you planting? Are you sowing righteousness, or are you sowing to the flesh, to your pride, or your comfort?

“You have plowed iniquity; you have reaped injustice; you have eaten the fruit of lies—because you trusted in your ownway.”

—Hosea 10:13

I’ve trusted in my own way before. And when I did, I reaped the consequences: confusion, frustration, and fruitless striving.

Let us not sow iniquity and reap injustice. Let us not eat the fruit of lies because we’ve trusted in ourselves or others. No, God is calling us to sow righteousness. He’s calling us to break the ground.

The seeds you plant today, whether bitterness or trust, control or surrender, are determining the harvest you’ll walk in tomorrow.

Break Up the Fallow Ground: Prepare the Soil for the Seeds You Plant Today

Fallow ground is untouched, hardened soil, ground that has been left unplowed for seasons. It’s resistant. It doesn’t want to be broken. If it could speak, it would cry out under the blade of the plow.

But seeds won’t grow in hard soil.

This is what God wants to do in us. That bitterness? That addiction? That pride? That numb place? Yeah, that. He wants to break it open.

You can’t expect a harvest if you refuse to break the ground.

“It is time to seek the Lord.” (Hosea 10:12)

The fallow ground in your heart is standing between you and the fruit God desires to grow. If you want to see change, start with the seeds you plant today.

The Seeds You Plant Today Require Your Obedience

We are saved by grace, but we’re also called to respond. Too often, we diminish our responsibility and assume God will do it all. No, we must turn. We must plow. We must sow.

“Return, Israel, to the Lord your God. Your sins have been your downfall! Take words with you and return to the Lord…” (Hosea 14:1–2)

This is repentance. This is our response. God won’t force your obedience. He’s looking for your willing participation.

Grace doesn’t eliminate your role. It empowers your repentance. The seeds you plant still need your hands.

You can’t reap a righteous life if you don’t sow righteous seeds. And the seeds you plant today will speak for you in the days ahead.

Make the Decision: Will the Seeds You Plant Today Have to Be Uprooted Later?

Think about it:

  • What are you okay with living with?
  • What choices are you making today that you’ll have to uproot tomorrow?

Is it worth it to involve yourself with things you’ll eventually have to tear out?

Every seed you plant is producing something. So decide what’s worth your time, your heart, and your future. Because with every decision, you’re also choosing its consequences.

Don’t plant what you’ll have to uproot later.

You don’t get to skip the harvest. Whether for good or bad, the seeds you plant today are already growing beneath the surface.

Remember: Every choice is a seed and every seed has a consequence. Don’t plant what you’ll regret.

Turning From My Own Way

“Help me, Holy Spirit.”

Romans 8:26 states that the Spirit helps us in our weakness, including our poor choices, weak thoughts, and physical limitations.

Help me to stop trusting in Brittany [insert your name here].

Lord, please help me to stop thinking I’m always right or that I know better.

I want to turn from my way, my thoughts, my desires, my pride, and trust You.

Waywardness is rebellion. It’s when we prefer our way over God’s. It leads us down destructive paths—and yet, God doesn’t give up on us.

“My people are bent on turning from Me… But how can I give you up?”

—Hosea 11:7–8

Thank you, Abba Father, for not giving up on me.

How to Break the Fallow Ground: A Process

So, how do we begin?

  • 1. Seek the Lord. Not self. Not strategies. Not idols. Seek the presence of God.
  • 2. Do it now. Don’t delay. The season is passing. Don’t wait until it’s too late to sow.
  • 3. Keep doing it. Until He comes and rains righteousness on you. Don’t expect a harvest from one day of obedience. Keep plowing. Keep sowing.

You won’t always see the fruit right away. But keep going because God is faithful to bring the rain in due time.

Revival within doesn’t start in a crowd, it starts in the seeds you plant today when no one’s watching.

God Has Handed You a Seed and a Plow—What Will You Plant Today?

God is handing you both a seed and a plow.

  • What will you do?
  • Will you break up the ground?
  • Will you sow righteousness?
  • Will you wait for the rain?

Let’s Pray Before You Go

Oh God, break up the fallow ground in me. May the Holy Spirit help me turn from my own way and trust You fully. Let the seeds I sow today produce righteousness and not regret. May I not delay. May I not be deceived. Let the rain of Your righteousness fall on my life as I return to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Your Turn: Reflect, Respond, Return

Before you leave, take a moment to reflect with God and respond. Don’t just read, engage with Him.

Pause and ask yourself:

  1. What area of my life feels dry, hard, or resistant to God?
  2. Where am I still trusting in my own way instead of His?
  3. What lie have I believed that keeps me from surrendering?
  4. What would it look like to sow righteousness today?
  5. Is there anything I’m planting now that I’ll regret later?

Get honest before the Lord. Write it down. Pray it out.
