Song Selection: Jesus Be The Name – Elevation Worship
A song to sit with as you surrender your focus back to Him.
Many of us are not distracted by bad things, we’re distracted by good things. We’re busy serving in church, building our goals, caring for our families, consuming content, and checking off religious boxes. While, none of these things are wrong. But good things can quietly replace God Himself when we stop asking, ‘Lord, is this what You’re leading me to do right now?
Living God-Focused, Not Self-Focused
To live God-focused starts with a humble surrender heart.
Humble surrender begins when we willingly put aside our own passions to see and embrace the passions of God. It starts in the decision to shift our focus from ourselves to Him. From what we want to what He desires.
To surrender is to become God-focused, and to be God-focused is to be glory-focused, His glory, not ours.
What Does Glory-Focus Mean?
To be glory-focused means choosing to make God the center, not ourselves. It is a daily decision to shift from self-focus to His glory, His name, and His purposes.
How Do We Become God-Focused?
We become God-focused when we:
- Spend time in His presence (daily)
- Fix our eyes on Jesus (daily)
- Pray for understanding and wisdom (daily)
- Ask His Word to keep us steady (daily) – Psalm 119:133
When we are God-focused, our lives begin to take on a different posture. We grow to love His Word, follow His ways, receive His guidance and love His people.
Scripture teaches us to pray this way:
“Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes… Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things, and give me life in Your ways.” (Psalm 119:33–37)

When our focus is on God, our lives naturally point to Him.
It stops being about what we can accomplish or achieve and becomes about what He can do. And when we allow God to take the lead, He fills the gap between our humanity and what feels impossible.
A Lesson in the Small Things
Recently, I was reminded of my own lack of humility in a very ordinary moment.
I was taking photos for merch. The focus was supposed to be the product but instead, my attention shifted to me.
How do I look? Is my pose, right? Is my hair straight? Does my face look okay?
Now, nothing is wrong with wanting quality photos, you don’t want messy or careless images. But the Lord gently showed me something deeper: This is how subtle self-focus can be and how easily it replaces glory-focus.
If I had been more merch-focused, the merch would have been the spotlight, not me.
And just like that, God used something small and mundane to remind me of something eternal: My role is not to draw attention to myself, but to point to Him.
God often reveals areas of growth not through grand moments, but through everyday ones.

How To Fix Our Eyes on Jesus?
To be glory-focused requires us to fix our eyes on Jesus and His delight. It means choosing awe over attention. Humility over visibility. Faithfulness over recognition.
But that leads us to important questions:
- How do we fix our eyes on Jesus?
- How do we do this practically?
- How do we make this a daily rhythm of our lives?
Well, it begins with humility. Living humbly says, “Lord, lead me.”
A Prayer of Surrender
Lord, as I live under Your guidance and Your governance, be the lead of my lives. I pray You be my focus not the platform, not the recognition, not the name. But You, the One who rests and reign over it all. The One this is all for. The One this is all about. Not me, but You. In the name of Jesus.
How To Live It Out, Today?
To live God-focused is to live humbly. It’s about seeing people and showing Christ.
To let our lives quietly, and consistently point back to Him. It’s in our moment-by-moment decisions.
You live it out today through your moment by moment decisions to honor Him, to glorify Him, to consider His ways and abandon your own.
What Does “See People; Show Christ” Mean?
To see people is to notice the needs around us, physical, emotional, and spiritual. It means seeing those who are hurting, weary, broken, or overlooked. Showing Christ means meeting those needs with love, offering comfort, compassion, and the heart of the Father. It’s more than words.
Jesus saw people where they were. He healed, encouraged, and loved them. And now, we are called to reflect Him.
Reflection
May we fix our eyes on Jesus, and may we live for His glory alone. Let’s reflect together.
- Where has your focus subtly shifted from God to self?
