Abide in Me Daily Practices: 5 Powerful Ways to Stay Rooted in Christ

The difference between surviving and thriving is hidden in abiding in Jesus. We are going to share some abide in Me daily practices that aren’t just habits, it’s the root of your identity and to true transformation.

Ready to unlock the power that changes everything? Let’s do it.

Friends, Happy July! šŸŽ‰ I know June was a heavy month, not just in the topics we’ve been exploring here on the blog, but in life itself.

The world feels heavy. Work is heavy. Circumstances are heavy.

Yet we have been loving the conversations we have been having. So, let’s keep it going, this is still just the beginning.

We’re diving deep into one of the most vital and transformative spiritual truths: ABIDE in Christ, which is our mission here at life in God.

We began this conversation in last month’s blog, ā€œThe Courage to Abide in God When Life Feels Heavy.ā€ Now, we’re going deeper with Jesus’ own words.

Why Abiding Matters Right Now

At Life in God, our mission is to help you surrender, dwell, and abide in God’s presence. And one of the clearest places Jesus teaches us how to live that out and what it truly means is in John 15. It’s also where we get the abide in Me daily practices initative.

ā€œAbide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.ā€ (John 15:4)

Before you read any further, pause and read John 15 slowly, prayerfully. I encourage you to grab your Bible (or Bible app). Read it once. Then again.

You can never read the Word of God too many times. Each time you return to a passage, the Lord may reveal something new or remind you of something familiar. Whether it’s a warning, guidance, or encouragement, or whatever He’s speaking to you. I urge you to take heed. God’s Word is living—it meets you right where you are and speaks exactly what you need.

Today, I want to focus on the first portion of this verse ā€œabide in me and I in you.ā€ Really, it all flows and goes together, but for this purpose I will break it up. Next week we will connect it with fruit bearing, because you cannot bear fruit by yourself.

Breaking Down the Word ā€˜Abide’

What is Jesus saying when He says, ā€œabide in meā€? What comes to mind when you hear the word ā€˜abide’?

Biblically, to abide means to remain, to dwell, to stay faithfully connected in relationship with God. It’s not passive, it’s intentional and daily.

Abiding is not a one-time decision—it’s a daily practice. Through Abide in Me daily practices, we stay spiritually rooted and practically connected to Him in everyday life, while He actively lives in us through His Spirit

What Does Abiding Look Like in Real Life?

It’s more than words or public declarations. Abiding shows up in how you live, love, speak, respond, and work.

Jesus is saying [say your name] remain in Me, remain when you don’t understand, live in Me, lay your roots in me and not in this world, stay faithful to the course, stay faithful to your vow to Me, stay faithful to your commitment.

In your remaining in Jesus do you find full joy and are strengthened.

This is what James Montgomery Boice had to say, “When our Lord says: Abide in me He is talking about the will, the choices, the decisions we make. We must decide to do things which expose ourselves to Him and keep ourselves in contact with Him. This is what it means to abide in him.”

This includes the books we read, the shows we watch, the conversations we have, the music we listen to, and the way business we do.

The charge and urging is to remain in Jesus so that you will become a reflection of Him in your life. Where everything you do reflects His nature and character in your life. Where your life becomes a manifestation and representation of the glory of God.

Your conduct, your conversation, your character, your parenting, your responses must bring glory and honor to Him.
How you speak and what you speak should honor Him and glorify Him.

If you want to go deeper, I’ve linked a sermon by Apostle Joshua Selman at the bottom of this post. It unpacks what it means to reflect God’s glory in your life.

This is a Two-Way Relationship

Jesus doesn’t just ask you to remain in Him—He promises to remain in you.

It’s not all on your shoulders. His Spirit actively dwells in you, guiding you, correcting you, and forming your life through Him.

Your walk with God is sustained not just by your effort, but by His presence.

We stay close to Him spiritually and practically (in our everyday life), but He also actively lives in us through His Spirit.

John Trapp reminds us, ā€œAll our sap and safety is from Christ. The bud of a good desire, the blossom of a good resolution, and the fruit of a good action, all come from him.”

Here’s the thing: you actually can’t do good, or love well, and represent Him apart from Him.

Let’s Be Real: What Abiding is Not

This isn’t about pretending to be overly spiritual. You don’t need to respond to ā€œHow are you?ā€ with ā€œBlessed and highly favoredā€ every time. But the way you treat people, the way you show up, and the peace you carry will say more about Jesus than any religious phrase ever could.

There has to be something different and distinct about you . It’s not to be seen and extra but because there really is. You’re not called to blend into the crowd you’re call to stand out, apart from the world ( John 17:16), make His name known, to testify about Jesus (John 4:29), to show love (John 17:16), to pour out what He’s been pouring into you, to have impact, win souls.

These traits are not of a person who blends in.

How to Begin Abiding: 5 Abide in Me Daily Practices

These ā€œabide in Me daily practicesā€ are small steps that build a life of big spiritual fruit.

  1. Live in the Fear of God – Cultivate deep respect, reverence, awe for Him.
  2. Let His Word Dwell in You – Let God’s Word take root in your Heart. Read, reflect, and live out Scripture daily.
  3. Obey What He Reveals – Follow His commands, nudges, and convictions.
  4. Seek His Wisdom Through Prayer- Pray scripture, seek wise counsel, and surrender to the Holy Spirit.
  5. Think Before You Speak – Give thought to your words and let your words reflect His heart.

A Final Reflection: How Are You Staying Anchored?

We have more resources than ever to stay connected to God—Bible apps, podcasts, worship music, videos shorts, devotionals, and community. Use them. Create rhythms. Let your soul stay anchored through consistent abide in Me daily practices. Thank God this connection isn’t just our effort. We’re not doing it alone—Jesus is also doing His part by helping us stay connected.
