You weren’t created to carry everything. You weren’t designed to run on empty, hustle for peace, or manage life alone. Dependency brings you back to God’s presence and it’s in His presence that your soul finally rests. Today, He’s calling you to return, release, and be restored. Let’s get into it.
This blog is a charge and a declaration: return to rest.
Dependency on the Lord leads you to rest, real rest. The kind that quiets the soul, anchors your heart, and lifts the weight you were never meant to carry alone.
Today, I want to charge you to return to God’s presence and find rest (again).

The Lord is calling us back. Back to His presence.
Back to friendship with Him. To the place where His arms are open, ready to receive you.
He is ready to lift every weight, to comfort you, give you strong consolation, and to refresh your soul (Hebrews 6:18; Matthew 11:28–30).
We need rest, and God’s rest is both available and sufficient.
His rest is greater, better and is the place your soul is longing for.
What Is God’s Rest?
Rest carries multiple layers in Scripture. There is the eternal rest anchored in salvation, and then there is the daily rest, the peace, trust, and inward quiet that comes from depending on God.
God’s rest includes:
- Eternal rest through salvation in Jesus (Hebrews 4:3).
- Peace with God (Romans 5:1).
- Freedom from servile bondage—striving, self-effort, and spiritual exhaustion (Galatians 5:1).
- Deliverance from burdens (Psalm 55:22).
- Freedom to worship without fear (John 4:23–24).
- Participation in the rest God Himself enjoys (Genesis 2:2–3; Hebrews 4:10).
God is serious about rest.
He created for six days and rested, not because He was tired, but to establish a model for us to follow. Rest was woven into creation, commanded in the Law, and fulfilled in Christ.
And yet, rest was never meant to make us lazy. You worked six days to reach the rest. Rest is a rhythm of trust, one we’ve forgotten in an age of self-reliance, noise, and constant striving.

A Beautiful Description of Rest
I love this insight from GotQuestions, which captures the heart behind biblical rest:
“God desires rest for us because it does not come naturally to us.
To rest, we have to trust that God will take care of things for us.
From the beginning… mankind has become more tense and less able to relax.
Obedience now will bring the rest that God so desires for us (Hebrews 3:7–4:11).
Relaxing our grip on our own lives… and giving them over to God in faith is the best way to relax.”
Rest requires trust.
Dependence.
Release.
Faith.
What Keeps You From God’s Rest?
Three things often prevent believers from entering God’s rest:
1. Unbelief
Unbelief convinces you that God won’t come through. It keeps you in fear, anxiety, and striving.
2. Disobedience
Disobedience is when we resist God’s way and cling to our own. Hebrews 4 warns that disobedience blocks rest.
3. Self-Reliance
Self-reliance says, “I’ve got it. I’ll figure it out.” God’s rest begins where your self-sufficiency ends.
Consider this verse from Hebrews 4: “There remains, then, a Sabbath rest for the people of God… Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest.”
—Hebrews 4:9–11
Entering God’s rest is both a promise and a pursuit.
How Do I Enter God’s Rest?
Here’s the path Scripture gives us:
1. Believe and Trust God (fully and wholeheartedly)
Rest begins with belief. If you don’t believe in God, you won’t trust Him enough to rest (Hebrews 4:3).
2. Obedience by Faith
Obedience is not legalism; it is faith in action.
3. Live by Faith
Faith shifts the weight from your shoulders onto His. (Read Hebrews 11).
4. Depend Solely on God
Rest is the fruit of dependency. We either rely on ourselves to keep ourselves, or we place full confidence in the finished work of Christ.

A Declaration of Return
Now, I want you to declare some things over your life.
Make this your prayer today. Say it out loud:
“Lord, I return to You. Enable me to return with my whole heart.
Holy Spirit, all of me—with fasting, with weeping, with mourning, I return and I seek Your rest.”
Today, I resign from control, and I choose obedience.
I step into faith and belief to enter Your rest.
And take this moment to confess the things you are releasing.
Name them.
Lay them down.
Give them to God.
Rest starts right here.
