His Light Is Already There — How to Stop Running From the Hidden Places God Wants to Heal

This blog is all about letting God into your hidden places. First, a song to sit with before you read: Good Plans – Red Rocks Worship

“He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him.” — Daniel 2:22

Something I Haven’t Been Able to Shake

Since last year, I have been deeply captivated by Daniel’s life.

There is something about the way Daniel walked with God that goes beyond strategy or discipline. He carried a confidence, a settled expectation that God reveals hidden things, opens doors, and moves on behalf of those who draw close to Him.

And that same invitation is extended to us today. But here is what I’ve noticed: before God reveals hidden things to us, He often wants to reveal hidden things within us.

That’s what this conversation today is about.

God Already Sees What You’re Hiding

Before we go any further, I want to say something that might feel uncomfortable, but it’s the most freeing thing you’ll read today.

God already sees everything.

“Even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day.” — Psalm 139:11–12

The sin you’ve been pushing down. The shame you carry quietly. The fear about your future. The thought you’ve never said out loud to anyone. The habit you keep returning to. The version of yourself you’re afraid is the real one.

He sees all of it, and He hasn’t left.

This is the most powerful form of love there is, to be fully known and fully stayed with. The enemy wants you to believe your hidden places disqualify you. That you’re too far gone, that what’s in the dark is too dark for God.

But Daniel 2:22 tells us something different: light dwells with God. He doesn’t tolerate the darkness. He enters it and transforms it.

What Happens When His Light Comes In

God’s light doesn’t come to expose you. It comes to free you.

When you stop hiding and let Him in, something begins to shift:

The confusion that has been circling your mind starts to settle. The fear that has been loud begins to quiet. The shame you’ve been carrying starts to lift. The habits and patterns that have had a grip on you begin to loosen.

And hope comes in, even if it starts as just a small, fragile spark; it begins to return.

“You light my lamp; the Lord my God lightens my darkness… by my God I can leap over a wall.” — Psalm 18:28–29

That is what His light does. It doesn’t just make things visible, it makes things possible.

What Exactly Did Daniel Do?

When the crisis came in Daniel 2, Daniel didn’t perform. He didn’t pretend to have it together. Daniel didn’t try to figure it out alone.

He gathered his companions and asked them to pray for mercy — Daniel 2:17–18.

He brought his need into the open, acknowledged what he didn’t have, and asked God for what only God could give. And God answered. (Daniel 2:19).

“He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death… He shatters the doors of bronze and cuts in two the bars of iron.” — Psalm 107:14–16

God still does this. He still breaks what has bound you. He still brings people out of the dark places, not because they had it all together, but because they cried out.

How to Actually Walk in the Light Today?

Let’s get practical. And I want to keep it simple because transformation doesn’t always require a ten-step plan. It usually begins with one honest moment.

Start with honesty before God.

Before anything else, sit down and ask Him one question: “Lord, what hidden place in my heart are You inviting Your light into today?” Then listen for His answer. Don’t rush past this. It’s the most important step. Everything else flows from here.

Take one small step toward what’s right.

Righteousness isn’t perfection; it’s direction. It’s choosing what honors God in the next moment in front of you. Maybe that’s telling the truth in a conversation you’ve been avoiding, or responding with patience instead of reacting. Make one decision today that you know aligns with who God is. You don’t have to fix everything. Just take the next right step.

Replace one thing that pulls you back into the dark.

Be honest with yourself about what it is: the habit, the distraction, the thought pattern, the environment. You don’t have to overhaul your entire life today. Just choose one thing to step away from and replace it with something that brings life. Worship music. A moment of prayer. Five minutes in the Word. One small shift in the right direction compounds over time.

Remember what He has already done.

Gratitude is one of the most powerful tools against fear and shame. Before you close out today, write down three things: a prayer that was answered, a hard season you made it through, and one way God showed up for you. When your memory of His faithfulness is clear, trust comes more naturally.

You Don’t Have to Stay in the Dark

I want to close with this.

You may be reading this carrying something heavy, something you haven’t told anyone, something you’re not sure God could really reach. Maybe you’ve been in this hidden place for a long time, and you’re not even sure how you got here.

Hear this: “Yet this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end.” — Lamentations 3:21–22

His light is available to you right now. Not after you clean yourself up. Not after you figure it out. Right now, exactly as you are, in the middle of whatever you’ve been hiding.

He sees you. He meets you there. And His plans for you are still good.

You don’t have to stay in the dark.

Come into the light today.

Transformation happens one surrendered moment at a time. Not ten steps at once, just the next honest one.
