It Makes Sense Why Jesus Had to Die

Why did Jesus have to die? Outside of Him dying for our sins, defeating the enemy, and giving us life, why did Jesus have to die?

I had a revelation that just had me leaping in my bones. And I think it’s going to do the same for you.

A Conversation That Changed Everything

I remember watching The Chosen when my husband said, “Ah, man, it makes so much sense why Jesus had to die.” Me, being confused, I asked, “Why do you say that?”

He shared that, because Jesus could only be in one place at a time, now that we have the promise and seal of the Holy Spirit, Jesus can be in all places at all times. He’s not limited or constrained by time. (John 16:7)

When I tell you, I was literally mind-blown. I just sat there.

The Question Our Daughter Asked

Recently, our 13-year-old shared how she thought it was cool that the disciples got to walk with Jesus and how it felt kind of hard to believe since we can’t spend time with Him the way they did.

And so many of us carry that same longing. We want an encounter with Jesus like the disciples had. We want to see Him, hear Him, walk with Him. And just because He’s not here in the flesh, and you cannot physically be with Him doesn’t mean we cannot experience Him; it actually means we can experience Him in a way the disciples never could.

Let that sink in for a second.

What Scripture Says About This

John 1:14 reminds us that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us God didn’t stay distant. He came close. He wrapped Himself in skin and walked among us so we could know what He looks like up close.

And through the Holy Spirit, He is still close. Closer than He’s ever been.

Here Is My Revelation

In Mark 6:7, Jesus sent out the 12 disciples in groups of two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. The disciples were constantly in Jesus’ presence. They followed Him, they ate with Him, they spent real, consistent time with Him. As a result, they were given authority.

This is what we must do as well.

And you might be like our sweet girl and say, “But it’s different. It’s not the same.”

Then I realized something that completely wrecked me. Jesus withdrew often to pray. He the Son of God, fully God in the flesh remained connected to the Father through the very same form we are to remain connected to Him.

WOW. MIND BLOWN.

Jesus didn’t just model what it looks like to teach, heal, cast out demons, and walk in authority. He modeled what it looks like to stay connected to the source of it all. Prayer wasn’t a religious discipline for Jesus; it was a lifeline. It was a relationship. And it’s the same for us.

We Are the Reflection of Jesus on Earth

The only way we can walk as Jesus walked is to remain connected to Him. We are called to disciple others, to walk alongside others because we are literally the reflection and image of Jesus here on earth. To do as He did. To minister, to teach, to heal, to empower.

OMG. I am literally so excited typing this.

Jesus is the ultimate blueprint we are to follow.

I’m reminded of God’s original intent for us we are called to “be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion.” (Genesis 1:28) That is exactly what Jesus demonstrated His entire time here on earth. He conquered, subdued, had dominion, multiplied, and was fruitful in everything He touched.

Nothing Is Too Small in His Hands

Look at the 5 loaves and 2 fish. Jesus multiplied what the disciples brought to Him and fed 5,000 men, and that number doesn’t even include the women and children with them. After everyone ate, there were still 12 baskets full of broken pieces left over. (Mark 6:42-43)

To us, those 5 loaves and 2 fish would have seemed too small. Too insufficient. Not enough to even make a dent.

But Jesus knew that what was placed in His hands was more than enough for His Father.

Whatever you’re holding right now that feels too small, your resources, your gifts, your capacity, your faith, place it in His hands. He has a history of multiplying what feels insufficient.

Why Jesus Had to Die

Jesus had to die so the Holy Spirit could come so He could be everywhere at the same time, meeting with each of us, helping us, and guiding us individually. Not just the twelve. Not just the people in the room. Every single one of us, all at once.

And because you now have the Holy Spirit, you are called to walk in God’s original intent for your life. To be fruitful and multiply. To fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion.

You carry the authority of Jesus Christ. There is nothing impossible with Him.

That is exactly why Jesus had to die, not just to save us, but to be with us. All of us. Always.
